I've never bit my nail my whole life. So I was surprised to find myself developing this habit this year.
This year, I've noticed myself becoming more and more anxious. With an overall theme of catastrophizing my future. But it shows up in the daily too: nervous fidgeting, digging into my own skin, uncontrollable thoughts of "what if", and recently, biting my nails.
So I'm happy to announce that I've found a "solution" that allows me to CONTINUE BITING MY NAILS. Here's how:
Though I run a press on nails brand, sometimes I still have bare naked nails. They're always neatly trimmed, so I find it hard to bite. As an amateur nail biter still learning the craft, I find it mildly uncomfortable to have to dig into my skin, really get under the layers, to get a grip on the nails. But one day (I had medium almond nails that day) to my amaze, I found out that when I naturally go to bite my nails in a moment of frustration, they were protected by some armor: press on nails that were hard (great crunchy texture btw), but most importantly, EASY AF to bite because of the length.
So a never got rid of the habit of nail bitting. Because I don't have to. And because a girl's gotta cope with this evil world, somehow. I just found an alternative that allows me to go to town but not hurt my natural nails in the process. Which is wonderful.
Bless you artificial nails.
On another note:
My first time meeting a nail biter was last year, when I went to my friends Lower East Side apartment, to do her nails for a photoshoot. While doing her nails, my friend Cassy (nickname) said she was really glad I came, because she can't stop biting her nails.
Mind you, Cassy looks like an absolute angel. I'm not being biased because she's a friend. She looks like a mix between Mazzy Joya and Belle Delphine (her actions aside, I think Belle is gorgeous). Out of everybody I knew, I did not expect Cassy to be a nail biter for some reason. I was very careful when glueing on her nails, fearing the glue will soak her skin because there was not much nails left on those delicate fingers.
That was the first time someone told me that press ons, or artificial nails in general, can be a solution to nail biting. So I laughed when I saw this goofy product listing on Walmart:
To each their own, but I'd rather have art on my nails that reflect who I am, than metal wires to stop my nail biting lol.
